Safety & Emergencies
Your pets' safety and well-being are our top priorities. From unexpected illnesses and severe weather to home security concerns and emergency veterinary care, we take a thoughtful, proactive approach to handling situations that may arise while you're away.
Below you'll find answers to common questions about our safety practices, emergency procedures, and how we make decisions in the best interest of the pets entrusted to our care.
What happens if my pet becomes sick or injured while I'm away?
Your pet's health and safety will always come first. We'll make every reasonable effort to contact you, but if immediate care is needed, we'll seek veterinary treatment based on the instructions and emergency authorizations you've provided.
What happens during severe weather?
Texas weather can be unpredictable, so we adjust our care plans as needed to keep pets safe and comfortable. Walks may be shortened or replaced with indoor enrichment during extreme heat, lightning, flooding, or other hazardous conditions.
How do you keep pets safe during visits?
Every pet receives individualized care based on their personality, behavior, and needs. We use Fear Free principles whenever possible, maintain secure handling practices, and take the time to understand each pet's routines, triggers, and safety requirements.
Are you trained in pet first aid?
Yes. All Buckaroo Crew members maintain Pet First Aid and CPCR certification and receive ongoing training in pet care and safety. We believe preparation and continuing education are essential to providing the best possible care.
What if I can't be reached during an emergency?
During onboarding, we'll collect emergency contacts and veterinary information to help guide decisions if you're unavailable. If an urgent situation arises, we'll act in your pet's best interest while following the instructions you've provided whenever possible.
What if there's a problem with my home while I'm away?
If we discover a concern such as a water leak, power outage, storm damage, or security issue, we'll notify you as soon as possible and provide updates. While we aren't home repair professionals, we'll take reasonable steps to protect your pets and home until further assistance can be arranged.
